Or, basically, how to dress for one of those, damn with that drama Violet.
Recently, I had the chance to attend my very first total white event. Things were of course casual and not strict as for the dress code, so I was one of the few who actually appeared in an total-white look (much like I had expected). My outfit for the night was not at all that much of a deal – I put literally little to no effort in putting it together as I didn’t have much time left to get ready. Then, after the party, I came up with a bunch of ideas and thought this would be a great chance to put them into words.
So, here, I have a small list of 5 fully white outfit ideas, that do not include white jeans and a top or a plain white dress;
- Pop Out
You can never go wrong with a mini skirt – even better when it’s white. Pair an a-line or white denim one with a classic white shirt but give that last one a twist; try to wear it on your bust and tie the sleeves on the front to create a bandeau top (I’ll show you how on a following outfit post) or wear it backwards with half of it unbuttoned to show off your back.
- The Dancing Queen
Have a pair of white flared trousers yet can’t figure what to wear them with to avoid being mistaken for an Elvis impersonator? Look no further; a structured top gives a crazy but super cute balance to such an outfit. Think paperbag, corsetry over a sleeveless tee or just one with short oversized sleeves – who’s going overboard? Not us! Anyway, try to balance the volume by showing off your waist.
Own a pair of culottes, palazzo or wide leg cropped pants instead? Keep it the italian boho part and go for a crop top.
- Mix it up
Are you more of an androgynous style kinda gal? Pair your white cigarette or tapered trousers with a chic bardot top. That way you get to both show some skin and be classy.
- The lady ain’t a tramp
Go for that midi or maxi white skirt you used to fear of – I guarantee you won’t look like a bride. You could throw a plain shirt on top, loosely tie a knot on the front and leave it half unbuttoned, creating a deep v. Choose between cotton or linen, as they’re more breathable, or dare some satiny textile – those three are easier to sit nicely on the bust.
- Layer that thing
If, of course, you still want to go for that dress you really love, try throwing it on top of a pair of white jeans or cigarette trousers. Chino pants work just as well. Layering is always a good idea, never fails to impress and has lately been a dear friend of mine. For this outfit, look out for midi lengths and slightly loose lines, like the ones you’d see in slip or skater dresses.
Tips for a look that doesn’t fail you
-Make sure your underwear doesn’t show – we don’t want to turn classy into trashy in just seconds
-Make sure all pieces are of the same tone; no off-white, no cream, no icy white getting mixed up with each other.
-The good thing with a total white look is that it’s not at all noisy, so you can easily go crazy with statement accessorizing and bold shoes. SHOES <3
-In each case of the above go for what you feel the comfiest in – especially when it comes to getting easily hot, don’t let that slip in your night and ruin it.
-Do not be afraid of white; black is know to be the slimming device of fashion but white is the all time classic that looks good on all sizes and all skin colors. Put your white on, girl!
